Microsoft today announced the end of support for Office 2010 and Office 2016 for Mac. From today, Microsoft will not be releasing bug fixes, or security updates for these products. Also, Microsoft won’t offer technical support for these products. If you haven’t already started the Office 2010 migration process, you need to start now. Also, to use services like Exchange Online and SharePoint Online, you need Microsoft 365 Apps, Office 2019, or Office 2016.
“While we will not take any active measures to block legacy versions of the Office client from connecting, these older clients will fall out of step with the service enhancements and may present performance and/or reliability issues over time,” said Jared Spataro, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft 365.
Following two options are available for people who want to upgrade from Office 2010.
Office 2016 For Mac Support End Date
Support for Office for Mac 2011 ended October 10, 2017. Rest assured that all your Office 2011 apps will continue to function—they won't disappear from your Mac, nor will you lose any data. But here's what the end of support means for you: You'll no longer receive Office for Mac 2011 software updates from Microsoft Update. For example, Office 2016 which was launched in September 2015 will have its mainstream support end in 2020. So, if you don’t cut over to a Microsoft Office subscription by then, it will no longer.
- Microsoft 365 Apps, the subscription version of Office that comes with many Office 365 (and Microsoft 365) enterprise and business plans.
- Office 2019, which is sold as a one-time purchase and available for one computer per license.
