VLC for Mac OS X VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. The most popular audio/video player for Mac is VLC Media Player. The VLC player for Macbook has stayed on top of the list for a long time. However, we also have many alternatives for it as more and more software has developed with more abundant functions than VLC. Almost all video crashes, when i try to rewind it, or change volume. It happens when i use standard macOS programs, like quicktime, photo app, itunes, appstore. When i open any video in VLC media player - it works great. I have mapped layouts in info.plist - it's work, but doesn't solve my problems with videos. What's the latest with HDR10 support from VLC on OSX Catalina to an external HDR10 display? By the way, does VLC on OSX Catalina even support RGB10 output or only RGB8 windows? It's clear OSX now supports 10 bit displays, but I'm unclear if VLC outputs 10 bit to it's GL display.

Devices and Mac OS X version

VLC media player requires Mac OS X 10.7.5 or later. It runs on any Mac with a 64-bit Intel processor or an Apple Silicon chip. Previous devices are supported by older releases.
Note that the first generation of Intel-based Macs equipped with Core Solo or Core Duo processors is no longer supported. Please use version 2.0.10 linked below.

Web browser plugin for Mac OS X

Support for NPAPI plugins was removed from all modern web browsers, so VLC's plugin is no longer maintained. The last version is 3.0.4 and can be found here. It will not receive any further updates.
